Drs. McIlwain, Carlson and Link are on staff at two local hospitals
within the West Alabama Region to accommodate emergency room coverage
for facial injuries. The doctors are "on-call" 24 hours/7 days
weekly. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are trained, skilled and
uniquely qualified to address and treat facial traumas such as:
- Fractured jaws (upper and lower)
- Fractured facial bones (cheek, nose, eye socket)
- Facial lacerations
- Avulsed (knocked out) teeth
There a number of possible causes of facial trauma. Motor vehicle
accidents, accidental falls, sports injuries, interpersonal violence
and work related injuries account for many. Types of facial injuries
can range from injuries of teeth to extremely severe injuries
of the skin and bones of the face. Injuries to the face, by their
very nature, inflict a high degree of emotional, as well as physical
trauma to patients.
